We were lucky to have Hurd Builders help us out by building an addition
on our existing home -- a new master suite. One of the first differences we
found in dealing with Hurd Builders was their willingness to work with us in
developing our vision and putting our ideas into workable plans. To put this in
context, we had originally discussed our initial vision with 3 different
contractors. We were frustrated when these prior contractors would provide us
with rough and wildly varying estimates, which lacked even the most basic
details on what their estimates were based upon on or how they planned to
transfer our ideas into actual construction. In contrast, when we sat down with
Melody and Russ, they helped us to draft out some rough plans, discussed their
general methodology, talked about what kind of foundation and construction they
suggested, showed us other projects they had on-going, and looked at our current
structure and discussed issues related to construction, plumbing, and
electrical. The different focus they brought to the customer and service was
dramatic. They then worked with us to develop a rough draft so we could begin to
see how conceptual discussions could become something tangible. At this point we
were comfortable with investing in the development of actual blueprints.
Their focus on customer, process and quality continued throughout the
construction. One particular concern we had at the outset was the need
to make progress once the project got started. We've personally experienced
projects that never seem to end. Mel and Russ did a great
job keeping things moving and on schedule. They completed our project in less
than 12 weeks from breaking ground to walk through -- and we are thrilled with
the final product and how well it matches our initial
vision, and how well it ties into the existing structure. I think the
best example of how pleased we are is reflected by the fact that we
recommend Hurd Builders to our friends, and will continue to do so.

You know the proverbial horror stories -- how hard it is to work with those
unreliable contractors/builders, so many decisions to make when designing a
home, divorce rates, etc. Now that our custom home is complete and we’re happily
residing within, I cannot think of any horrifying, stressful or unpleasant
memories associated with the building of the house itself. Melody and Russ Hurd
were incredibly easy to work with (“user-friendly” I like to say) and made the
custom home-building experience one of the best phases in our married lives. I
can say with complete honesty, that if we move in the future, there is no other
builder we will use … only Hurd Builders.
The unique feature about the company, Hurd Builders, is that it’s a husband and
wife team. Both partners serve an indispensable role in the building process and
the two personalities and talents meld together for the ideal
builder-partnership. Melody Hurd has excellent organizational skills and leads
the homeowner through the selection process with finesse and efficiency. Her
method of helping us pick out the endless list of things: appliances, faucets,
light fixtures, flooring, etc., was done in a structured way so that we ended up
with our selections chosen weeks and sometimes months before the product needed
to be installed. There was no last-minute rushing and stressing over selections.
Complementing Melody’s attributes are Russ Hurd’s decades of building
experience, excellent people skills, and high energy & enthusiasm for his
profession. The two make an amazing team.
We had the unique situation that we built our home one block from our previous
home and we were able to stop in almost daily and watch the process unfold from
beginning to end. We were able to meet every person involved along the way and
watch him/her working. The trades people, such as the custom-shelves builder,
flooring people, painters, plumbers, framers, etc. were stellar in their skills
and professionalism.

We owned our own lot, but, were clueless on the whole building process. Russ and
Mel were very professional and very helpful. They took our hands and graciously

and strict time schedule. We were always informed of what was happening next, so

When my wife and I were looking to move, we never thought a custom built home
was in our future. After going through the same model after model home, we
stumbled across a lot and house package by Hurd Builders. We called and could
not believe the price was comparable to all the mass builders. The Hurd's took
the time and explained the whole building process in detail.
Mel and Russ Hurd encouraged us to be involved in the entire construction
process. They met with us at their design center to review and share
information. This process, in turn, gave us the confidence and knowledge of our

Dear Russ and Mel,
I can’t believe it has been just over a year since we have moved into our new
home. I have been meaning to write you a note since last April and am sorry it
took me so long to tell you just how pleased we are with our home. This is
probably a huge understatement since the home, as the end product, is only a
portion of the entire process.
When Bob and I decided to have a home built, we knew a lot of builders between
us. With his contacts as a building products supplier and mine as a Realtor, you
would think choosing a builder would have been an easy thing. After lots of
discussion, we agreed that of all the builders we worked with, we were not
impressed with any of them enough to want them to build our home. When a
coworker suggested we speak with Hurd Builders, we were certainly willing to at
least have a conversation.
The day the two of you met us at our home site to look at the land, get a feel
for each other, and talk about our plans, we immediately knew we had found a
perfect match. The working relationship we created together was such a wonderful
experience that I would honestly love to build another home with you. The only
problem is the home you already built for us is so lovely we would really have a
tough time leaving it.
We have such a tremendous amount of respect for the two of you and the manner in
which you run your business. The process was a learning experience for my
husband and I, and your patience throughout is to be commended. We believe you
listened to us very well from the beginning and guided us right to the end of
the project. You showed us a better way to do things at times and were so
willing to consider alternatives at others.

We were clients of Hurd Builders and would recommend them to anyone
that was looking for a well built home. This was our first time with a
true custom builder. We had our guard up for what we thought would
be the same bad experience we had with our previous builder. Dealing
with our previous builder who stated that he was a custom builder and
would build a house anyway we wanted it. First of all we never met the
builder personally and when it was requested by us and others in the
community to meet with him he refused instead we met with a sales
representative. Every time we wanted to change or move anything we
were told that they could not do this or that. We hired an independent
inspector who found several building errors (to include not having the
correct support beams in place) things that should have not even passed
code. Should we say it was a complete nightmare?
Instead it turned out to be the most exciting and educating
experience we could have ever hoped for. First of all it was awesome to
be able to meet with the builders Melody and Russell Hurd. They were
both very honest with us and stuck to their word. They spent a lot of
thought and care into making sure we got the product that we truly
wanted. They kept us informed on each stage of the project daily. They
addressed our concerns immediately with no delay. We had the same Home inspector
which is a retired builder himself come to inspect the house. His exact words to
us were "This is rare, they don't build homes with this type of quality anymore".
We spoke with all the subcontractors
thru the building process and they all said that this is the only
builder that they would have if they had to build a house because Russell
and Melody care about their product. To add you could tell that these
same contractors took pride in their work.
